Trimming PDF margins without re-rendering
PDF cropping adjusts the page boundary boxes that define the visible area — specifically the MediaBox and CropBox. This is a metadata change, not a re-render, so text, images, and vector content remain at their original quality regardless of how much you crop.
Common use cases include removing large white margins from scanned documents before printing, trimming oversized borders from exported presentations, or standardizing the visible area across a multi-page document. You can apply the same crop to all pages at once or select individual pages for different margins.
The first page shows a live preview of the crop region as you adjust the margin values. All processing happens locally in your browser — no files are uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping remove the content outside the crop area?
PDF cropping works by adjusting the page's MediaBox and CropBox — the rectangles that define the visible area. The content outside the crop area is hidden from view but technically remains in the file. If you need to guarantee content removal, use the Redact tool instead.
What units can I use for the crop margins?
You can enter margins in points (PDF native units, 72pt = 1 inch), millimeters, or inches. The tool converts to points internally before applying.
Can I crop only specific pages instead of the whole document?
Yes. Switch the "Apply to" toggle to "Selected pages", then click individual page thumbnails to select them. Only the selected pages will have the crop margins applied.
Will cropping affect the PDF quality?
No. Cropping is a metadata operation that adjusts the page boundary rectangles. No content is re-rendered or re-encoded, so text, images, and vector graphics remain at their original quality.
Are my files uploaded to crop them?
No. All processing happens in your browser using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device.
